“How Will Government Function if We Don’t Pay Income Taxes?”

I have lots of non-tax-related things I like to rant about, but I generally don’t do it here, since this list is about the income tax deception, what the law says, what is being done about it, etc. However, a question keeps coming up that concerns a lot of people when they start to look into the tax thing. I usually let it slide, but this time I will respond.

The question is [drum roll]:

“How will government function if we don’t pay income taxes?”

The question and the answer really have nothing to do with what the LAW says is taxable (you won’t find any section of law saying “everyone’s income is automatically taxable if we really, really need revenue”), so I’ll begin by whining a bit about the question.

Either my income is taxable, or it isn’t. (No need for volunteers to tell me which it is.) If my income is NOT taxable, what does the above question imply? People are scared that if 100,000,000 or so Americans stop giving piles of money to the IRS, horrible things will happen. I’ll address that below, as I believe that fear is unnecessary, but first let me turn the question around.

If the income of most Americans is NOT taxable, what happens if we ALLOW
ourselves to be illegally defrauded? Frankly, even a government with a complete lack of revenue sounds rather benign to me compared to a government without ANY LEGAL RESTRAINTS ON IT. Think of it. If someone is worried that not paying will lead to scary things (mass poverty, starving old people, etc.), what is the alternative? To ALLOW ourselves to be forcibly robbed of money we DO NOT OWE. Now THAT is scary.

We don’t actually OWE the tax, but we should pay (and be FORCED to pay) for the good of the country, regardless of what the law says.

Or maybe…

Legally we’re allowed to speak our minds, but dissent should be silenced by force for the good of the country right now, regardless of what the law says.

Or maybe…

Legally the government is not supposed to swipe our stuff without due process, but for the good of the country we should let them, regardless of what the law says.

Or maybe…

Legally we’re supposed to elect representatives, but for the good of the country we need a temporary military dictatorship, regardless of what the law says.

In other words…

Legally we’re supposed to be free, we’re supposed to have the rule of law, the government is supposed to OBEY the law and serve the public… but heck, for the good of the country let’s just have pure fascism.

If we don’t OWE the stinking tax, there are only two options:

1) We tear down the fraud, and then deal with the repercussions, or; 2) We instantly revert to complete tyranny, where the law doesn’t matter, the truth doesn’t matter, freedom doesn’t matter; only the “compelling interest of the state” matters.

Incidentally, #2 has been tried. Repeatedly. It didn’t work out real well.

Of course, if you don’t owe the tax, you are always free to voluntarily contribute to the feds. (Personally, I think “investing” your money in the nearest toilet is far better for society than sending money to Washington, but I’m a tad extreme.) But people aren’t asking about that. They are asking about the possible negative consequences of not having the government FORCE 100,000,000+ people to surrender money they DO NOT OWE.

Here’s an analogy to consider: If you found out that someone stole your credit card, and then spent many thousands of dollars on cars, TVs, drugs, etc., which would you do?:

  1. a) Cancel the card and try to get the guy locked up or punished.
  2. b) Let him keep doing it to you, AND EVERYONE YOU KNOW, because you’re not sure who might suffer if his stolen income dries up.

That poor, unfortunate thief.

Am I being a bit harsh? Maybe. But after having my home invaded by the federal jackboot brigade because I spoke my mind, somehow the implied suggestion that we should LET them illegally rob us all, because we are worried about what will happen if they don’t, just doesn’t sit well with me. Whatever may happen when the “income tax” fraud falls, I would greatly prefer it over what happened in China, Cuba, the Soviet Union, Germany, Cambodia, etc., etc.

Really, think what it would mean. “I know I don’t owe this, and I know you government lawyers have defrauded me of many thousands of dollars already, but I think you should KEEP taking money from me (by force) that I don’t owe, no matter what the law says, for the good of the country.”

Gack! In fact, now I’ve ranted so much about the insanity of ALLOWING completely lawless government, that I will wait until my next note to explain why 100,000,000 people suddenly refusing to give money to the feds would be a very GOOD thing overall, despite some temporary problems. (And it won’t happen that way anyway.)

If you are concerned about what will happen when the fraud falls, that’s understandable, and I’ll voice my opinion about it tomorrow. But first, whatever you do, please acknowledge (to yourself) that allowing the government to break its own laws, and illegally defraud, terrorize, and extort the citizenry, is NOT A TOLERABLE OPTION. We can plan ahead for what to do when the federal leech is gone, but PLEASE do not suggest to me that we should KEEP the big slimy, bloated, diseased sack of filth, for fear of what removing it may cause. (I think I just heard Thomas Jefferson’s ghost crying.)
